Summer season in India ranges from April to June/July. It is the time when most parts of Northern India experience high temperatures ranging from 35 – 48 degree Celsius.

  1. Keep yourself hydrated – human body is 60% water. And, it is necessary to keep it hydrated all the time. Especially during summer season in India. It is recommended that you always keep a bottle of water with yourself before going out. Also, drink at least a glass of water before leaving.
  2. Cover your head – you need to keep your head cool to avoid overheating. Thus, you must always cover your head with light coloured cloth, hat or cap. Similarly, you can use umbrella for protecting your head and face from heat waves.
  3. Wear sunglasses – summers doesn’t mean you must not dress stylish. Long exposure to direct sunlight can damage cornea consequently causing temporary blindness. Therefore you must wear good quality sunglasses with UV protection.
  4. Schedule your outdoor activities – During 2 PM – 5 PM temperature is highest in the day. Therefore, you must avoid being out in direct sunlight during this time. Most of the monuments in Jaipur open by 9 AM in morning. You may plan your visit in early morning hours. Additionally, some monuments could be visited during night time too.
  5. Wear comfortable clothes – you must avoid wearing dark coloured clothes during summer season. Also, avoid tight clothes. Cotton, linen or other light fabrics would let your body breathe. Consequently, it will keep your body temperature controlled.
  6. Don’t leave your hotel, accommodation empty stomach – an empty stomach makes you vulnerable to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Scorching sun and heat waves affect proper body functioning adversely. So, it is necessary that you have had your meal before going out.

Here is a list of healthy and yummy super foods to have during summer season in Jaipur or India. This list is based on eating habits of local people of Jaipur. These foods or drinks will help you to have a pleasant & healthy stay in Jaipur or India.

So, have them all when you are in Jaipur –

  • Sugarcane Juice – a glass of sugarcane juice will give you plenty of essential minerals. It helps in bowel movement, liver health and fighting jaundice. It addition, it helps against dehydration. Make sure the juice is prepared fresh and the place is hygienic. This juice is available at most market corners in Jaipur.
  • Buttermilk or Chhachh – It is a yogurt based drink popular in most parts of India. It is consumed plain or mixed with salt/sugar. Consumption of chhachh helps in keeping body temperature down. It desert areas of Rajasthan it is consumed with salt to prevent loss of minerals and water in body. This is readily available in most restaurants. Packaged buttermilk is also available at most dairy shops.

  • Lemon Water or Shikanji – it is a very refreshing drink which keeps body hydrated. It is available at most restaurants. Moreover, it is very simple to prepare it. Just squeeze a lemon into a glass, add water plus ice and the drink is ready. You may add salt or sugar too for taste. This detoxifying drink is best when consumed empty stomach in morning but it could be consumed at any other time of the day too.

  • Coconut Water – nearest sea shores are hundreds of kilometers away of Jaipur. But the better modes of transportation have made it possible to have coconut water here in the city too. Natural coconut water helps in hydrating body, healthy skin and keeps body cool.
  • Onions – add raw onions to your plate every day. In rural Rajasthan farmers have to work in burning heat. And raw onion salad is a must to keep them going. There are numerous health benefits of onions but most important is its cooling property.
  • Muskmelon – Muskmelons are 90% water and full of vitamins and minerals. This antioxidant rich fruit is helpful in indigestion, improving blood pressure and maintaining healthy eyesight. Additionally, this summer fruit keeps the water levels in the body maintained.
  • Watermelon – watermelon is a summer fruit of India. The delicious fruit could be eaten raw or could be consumed as a juice. It is 92% water thus it helping in keeping body cool. This fruit is rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which help in maintaining healthy immune system.

Apart from the above you must consume green vegetables and most importantly drink water frequently.
