Sahu Tea Stall in Jaipur – History of Sahu ki Chai and How to Reach

Sahu Tea Stall was opened in the year of 1968, way before the era of Coffee shops and cafes that Late Shree Ladhu Ram ji established the true icon for Jaipur.

Situated in the main bazaar of Jaipur walled city under the shadow of a peepal tree, this place is always crowed with young and old, couples and friend’s groups. Shree Ladhu Ram ji opened Sahu Restaurant when Jaipur was still confined to walled city.

The place soon became famous for tea lovers, political discussions and refreshments.

Slowly Jaipur expanded and grew to the boundaries but people’s favorite ‘Sahu ki Chai’ kept its taste and class intact.

Today most of the visitors are regulars. Some claim to be visiting the shop since it was opened. Many come here for meeting friends; many come here at Sahu Tea Stall for refreshing tea and others for the daily routine of having a ‘Sahu ki chai’.

If one asks what is one thing that true Jaipurites cannot live without, and then the answer will be Chai. And every Jaipurite have had a cup of tea at Sahu Restaurant once.

It is said amongst locals that tea of Sahu is addictive. Local story is that the owners add a secret ingredient to enhance the taste. While the owners attribute it to the age old technique of preparing tea on slow flames of burning coal.

Tea tastes best when it is served in shikora or kulhad. The mud pot soaks the tea and gives an earthly smell. One can try this kulhad tea at Sahu Restaurant. Other refreshments available at shop are kachori, fann and mathri.

How to Reach and Timings

The Sahu Tea Stall in Jaipur starts serving in early morning by 5 and is open till 10 in the night. So, this is where you can have the best tea in Jaipur. Following the current trends, they have opened some other outlets as well but the main ones are still in Chaura Rasta only. One is near Golcha Cinema and other is opposite Amar Jain Hospital.
