Interesting folklore is related to the place. Meena Warriors use to carry their weapons all the time thus making it difficult for the Rajputs to overthrow them from the Amer crown. But, it was on the eve of Deepawali that the Meena warriors would put away their weapons to take a dip in the step well and perform a pooja. Rajputs took advantage of the fateful day and killed all the unarmed Meena warriors to claim the crown.
