Mumbai Jaipur Duronto Express Review – Food, Timing, Ticket, Facilities, about all

Fastest train between Jaipur and Mumbai is Duronto Express and here is a detailed review of the journey one can have.

I recently travelled in the 3rd AC compartment from Mumbai to Jaipur and here is my experience along with useful 12239 train information.

12239 Mumbai Jaipur Duronto Express Review

As Jaipur Junction (code – JP) isn’t on the route of Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani express, the fastest train between Mumbai and Jaipur is Duronto express.

12239 runs from Mumbai to Jaipur every Tuesday and Sunday and the 12240 runs from Jaipur to Mumbai every Tuesday and Thursday. It is the only downside of this train as it doesn’t run throughout the week.

As I booked 3rd AC compartment, my review is based on the experience I had in the same but it will give you an idea of what to expect from second and first class journey (obviously better and costlier).

Mumbai Jaipur Duronto Express Facts

• Average travel time between Mumbai to Jaipur via Duronto express is 15 hour 20 minute.
• Duronto express is the fastest train between Mumbai and Jaipur and has an average speed of 76 KMPH.
• The distance between Mumbai Central and Jaipur Junction is 1160 KMs.
• Duronto Mumbai Jaipur train stays on time and is among the punctual trains in India.
• There is a dedicated Pantry Car serving hot meal and breakfast.
• Mobile and Laptop charging points are available next to every seat.
• Cleaning staff is very active and you’ll rarely find any trash inside the train.
• Pillow, blanket and fresh bedsheet are offered to all passengers.

During my visit, the train had a stop at Kota Junction in Rajasthan. You always have live tracking feature in case you wish to know whereabouts.

Cellular network coverage was throughout the journey except for few patches. My Airtel and Vodafone data network were also working during most of the journey.

Mumbai Jaipur Duronto Food

Now let’s come to the topic we all care most of. How is the Jaipur-Mumbai Duronto Food?

As the train starts late from Mumbai, there is no food served at that hour but they do offer a water bottle of Rail Nil brand and pantry manager note down your food preferences (Veg or Non-Veg) for the next day.

Breakfast with tea is served the next morning. Veg pickers get cutlet while the non-veg picker gets an omelette.

Duronto Food Timings – Later during the daytime at about 12:30 PM, they serve hot and freshly cooked lunch. I ordered veg and this is what I got. I’ll reply to your comment if you find hard to recognize any of the items. If you’re having the journey from Jaipur to Mumbai then you’ll get dinner at around 09:00 PM while boarding the train and breakfast next morning at around 08:30-09:00 AM.

Note – Only a single water bottle is offered free of cost. An additional water bottle will come at a price of 15 INR per bottle.

Food quality has improved a lot in the past couple of years and the one I had during my journey was fairly delicious. I missed the morning halt at Ratlam station but I did manage to have delicious Dal Pakoda of Sawai Madhopur station.

As the train always needs engine change (change in direction), halt at Sawai Madhopur station is more than 10 minutes. During my journey, it was around 20 minutes.

Mumbai-Jaipur Duronto seat availability is not an issue unless you’re booking during the festive season. I got the confirmed seat before a week through IRCTC portal.

The train starts from Mumbai Central (code – MMCT) at 23:15 (11:15 PM) and reaches Jaipur next day at 14:35 (02:35 PM).

Conclusion

Newspaper is provided to each which is a good sign. I found the toilets to be always cleaned and properly stacked with water and hand-wash solution.
