While the Vande Bharat Express is now the fastest train between Mumbai and Jaipur, the Duronto Express remains a premium and incredibly comfortable option. Here is a detailed review of the journey one can have on this excellent train.

I recently travelled in the 3rd AC compartment from Mumbai to Jaipur, and here is my experience along with useful 12239 train information.

As Jaipur Junction (code – JP) isn’t on the route of the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express, the second fastest train between Mumbai and Jaipur is the Duronto Express.

12239 runs from Mumbai to Jaipur every Tuesday and Sunday, and 12240 runs from Jaipur to Mumbai every Tuesday and Thursday. It is the only downside of this train as it doesn’t run throughout the week.

As I booked a 3rd AC compartment, my review is based on the experience I had in the same, but it will give you an idea of what to expect from second and first class journeys (obviously better and costlier).

Rent a Bike in Jaipur from outside Jaipur Railway Station and avoid long traffic Jams and pricey cabs.

• Duronto Mumbai Jaipur train stays on time and is among the punctual trains in India.
• A dedicated Pantry Car is serving hot meals and breakfast.
• Mobile and Laptop charging points are available next to every seat.
• Cleaning staff are very active, and you’ll rarely find any trash inside the train.
• Pillow, blanket, and a fresh bedsheet are offered to all passengers.

Train no 12239 schedule or Duronto Express Mumbai to Jaipur timetable is as follows.

During my visit, the train had a stop at Kota Junction in Rajasthan. You always have a live tracking feature in case you wish to know your whereabouts.

Cellular network coverage was available throughout the journey except for a few patches. My Airtel and Vodafone data networks were also working during most of the journey.

Now, let’s come to the topic we all care about most. How is the Jaipur-Mumbai Duronto Food?

As the train starts late from Mumbai, there is no food served at that hour, but they do offer a water bottle of Rail Nil brand, and the pantry manager notes down your food preferences (Veg or Non-Veg) for the next day.

Breakfast with tea is served the next morning. Veg pickers get a cutlet while the non-veg picker gets an omelette.

Duronto Food Timings – Later during the daytime, at about 12:30 PM, they serve hot and freshly cooked lunch. I ordered veg and this is what I got. I’ll reply to your comment if you find it hard to recognize any of the items. If you’re taking the journey from Jaipur to Mumbai, then you’ll get dinner at around 09:00 PM while boarding the train and breakfast the next morning at around 08:30-09:00 AM.

Note – Only a single water bottle is offered free of cost. An additional water bottle will come at a price of 15 INR per bottle.

Food quality has improved a lot in the past couple of years, and the one I had during my journey was fairly delicious. I missed the morning halt at Ratlam station, but I did manage to have a delicious Dal Pakoda at Sawai Madhopur station.

The train has a scheduled halt at Sawai Madhopur station. While it was previously known for a long halt due to an engine change, this process is now faster with modern locomotives. The stop is still a great opportunity to stretch your legs and perhaps try the famous local Dal Pakoda.

Mumbai-Jaipur Duronto seat availability is not an issue unless you’re booking during the festive season. I got the confirmed seat a week ago through the IRCTC portal.

The train starts from Mumbai Central (code – MMCT) at 23:15 (11:15 PM) and reaches Jaipur the next day at 14:35 (02:35 PM).

A newspaper is provided to each, which is a good sign. I found the toilets to be always cleaned and properly stocked with water and hand-washing solution.
