What’s City Palace Jaipur? It’s a palace complex in the heart of Pink City Jaipur. The palace itself consists of multiple palaces and buildings featuring the mixed architecture of Rajputs, Mughals and even Europeans.

Being a heritage place let’s start with the history first. It was built during 1729 to 1732 at a location 8KMs away from old capital Amber. City Palace is still a royal residence part of which is opened for public as the museum.

Located right at the heart of pink city, it was once the seat of Jaipur’s King who was the head of Kachwaha Rajput clan. Along with the other architectures in the pink city, this one was also planned by the known architect of that time, Vidyadhar Bhattacharya.

There are three entries to the inner structure, namely Virendra Pol, Tripolia Gate and Udai Pol. Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Pritam Niwas Chowk, Diwan-e-Khas, and Diwan-i-Aam are the primary attractions inside.

There was also a dedicated royal residence for royal queens, named Maharani Palace which is now converted into a museum showcasing the weapons of gone era. The famous Govid Dev Ji temple is also part of the City Palace.

Baggi Khana is the last main attraction which is a museum of old cabs and carriages also known as Baggis in India.There are many Baggis of the old age one can see along with the special one named Victoria Baggi which was gifted by Prince of Wales to the Maharaja back in 1876.

The overall architecture is one of its kind as the palace consists of multiple pavilions, gardens, buildings and even temples. Mubarak Mahal and Chandra Mahal are the prime highlights inside.

  • It was built by the founder of Pink City who was also behind the Hawamahal and Jantar Mantar.
  • As aforementioned, the architecture is fusion of Rajputs, Mughals and Europeans, giving it a distinctive look.
  • The architecture is based on Vastu Shashtra which can be clearly noticed while navigating inside.
  • Mubarak Mahal and Chandra Mahal are two most attractive structures inside.
  • Out of total four, the third entrance from Tripolia Gate is reserved for the royal family.
  • The flag on top of Chandra Mahal is only up when Maharaja of Jaipur is inside it.
  • One must visit the museum inside and see all the antiques and royal things preserved in there.

City Palace Jaipur Timings

One can visit it from 09:30 in the Morning to 5PM in the evening. It takes about 2 hours to see all attractions of Jaipur’s City Palace. Even during the Winter or Monsoon, it’s recommended to carry an umbrella and wear comfortable slippers or shoes as you’ll be walking down a lot.

What’s the best time to visit City Palace Jaipur?

As it is part of the Pink City, the best time to visit City Palace Jaipur is during winter, from October to January. You can plan a visit during Monsoon season from July to September.

Planning a visit in any other time of the year is not a good idea considering the harsh dry and hot weather of the city during summer.

If you’ve already made a summer plan, then avoid taking this short trip during the peak noon hours. In my opinion, you should take the entry as soon as it gets open in the morning.

You can easily find guides for about 200 INR who can speak and understand your language while entering the place. Even the audio guides are available along with interior map and guidance.

Indian child fee is 70 INR per head while the fee for Senior Citizens and Defence persons is just 110 INR. With a Student ID card one can get entry at discounted just 70 INR cost.

The cost for Royal Grandeur visit is 2000 INR for Indian and 2500 INR for Foreign guests. You can book tickets online at this dedicated portal.

How to Reach Jaipur’s City Palace?

To reach City Palace in Jaipur you need to go to old walled town and take the entrance from the side of Tripolia Gate. You can either take a walk around the heritage blocks or hire a rickshaw/auto till the entrance to City Palace.
