The original name of this market remains unknown, but it was certainly developed when Jaipur was founded in 1727. Interestingly, the New Gate, which forms the entry to Chaura Rasta, was not part of the original city plan.
As Jaipur expanded and population density increased, a new access point was required between the old city and the new settlements. This led to the construction of New Gate.
