What is Annapurna Rasoi? You may spot small saffron-colored vans surrounded by men & women while traveling to Jaipur city or Rajasthan. These vans are known as Annapurna Rasoi vans. These mobile kitchens serve meals to underprivileged people at subsidized prices.
About Annapurna Rasoi
Rajasthan Government launched the Annapurna Rasoi scheme on December 15, 2016. The scheme focuses on providing nutritious food to students and other needy people on nominal prices. Under this scheme breakfast, lunch and dinner is served.
Initially, the scheme was started from 12 districts of Rajasthan. The scheme was an instant hit. Therefore, the operational area of the scheme was increased to many other cities.
Earlier Congress government under Shri Ashok Gehlot had renamed the scheme as Indira Rasoi commemorating former Prime Minister and Congress leader Mrs. India Gandhi. Now the ruling BJP government has renamed it as Shri Annapurna Rasoi.

Question – Why was Annapurna Rasoi Scheme launched?
Answer – The scheme was launched with a vision to make nutritional food in everyone’s reach. With the increasing rate of urbanization the main problem people face is of food. This scheme was launched keeping in mind the laborers, students, patients & their caretakers, helpless, elderly and working women.

What are the prices of food in Annapurna Rasoi?
Meals at Annapurna Vans are provided at subsidized rates so that everyone can have access to nutritional and hygienic food. The price is kept at Rs. 8 for everyone.

What dishes are served in Annapurna Rasoi?
During the launch of the scheme Government promised to provide 26 dishes. Menu for lunch and dinner is developed keeping in mind the diversified needs, nutritional values and energy needs.
300 grams Chapati (Roti), 100 grams dal (Pulses), 100 grams sabzi (Vegetables), 100 Chawal (Rice) and Coarse Grain (Mote anaj ki khichdi) with Achar.
How much food is served per plate?
Food quantity per plate is fixed by the government to ensure transparency and proper functioning. Breakfast served is 350 grams per plate. Earlier the lunch and dinner quantity was set to 450 grams per plate. Now, the quantity is raised to 600 grams per plate. However, one person can buy one plate only. The weighing machine is visible from outside so that customers can check if the quantity is right.

How is food prepared in Annapurna Rasoi scheme?
The vans are designed specially to maintain cleanliness. As well as, the staff members are trained in hospitality. So accordingly, they perform their duties to cook and serve food in a hygienic way. And at some places government is cooperated by local bodies like Akshayapatra Foundation for preparation of food or funding.

Annapurna Rasoi Timings
The 3 meals are served in a day under the scheme. Timings of the scheme are –
Lunch Time 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM
Dinner Time 7 pm to 9:30 PM

Annapurna Rasoi vans serves meals at multiple locations in Jaipur. These locations are chosen keeping in mind the footfall of students, patients, laborers and travelers. You can find these vans at major roads, hospitals, colleges, crossings, etc.
Is the food tasty?
The meals served are not only hygienic but tasty too. Although, you cannot expect the high end hospitality but surely the food served is a match to its fame.
